We’re baaaa-aack! As expected, Mexico and its 3 A’s were everything they were cracked up to be. We stayed at two different resorts, got some pretty decent tans and witnessed the marriage of my BFF. As much as I would love to give you a play-by-play of every moment we had under the sun, I’ll give a quick recap of the trip’s highlights.
We arrive at Resort 1, the Valentin Imperial Maya. The bartender hands me a Blue Hawaiian. And I am saved.
Waking up without an alarm is awesome. Waking up, rolling out of bed and having breakfast on a balcony overlooking a pool is more awesome.
People-watching at the pool may be more entertaining than people-watching at the airport. Case in point: We watched a girl pass out on a raft and literally float from one end of the pool to the other. We then watched her significant other sneak up on her from behind and swiftly flip the raft over onto its side. She went plunging into the pool and everyone from here to Tuesday saw it. Hilarious and quite possibly the highlight of the day.
High humidity, salty sea air and beautiful beach views.
The nightly shows at the Valentin were actually really good. Our favorite happened to be the Michael Jackson show. We’re not huge MJ fans, but the crowd was way into it, the dancers were excellent and the impersonator had MJ and his mannerisms down pat. Now I’m seriously considering buying that Just Dance: Michael Jackson Wii game. Shhh, don’t tell anyone I said that.
After two years without seeing each other, BFF Linds and I reunite at Resort 2, Aventura Spa Palace!
One of the perks of staying at the Aventura is you get resort credits when staying for three nights or more. Those credits can be used on anything from a trip to the Mayan ruins or a lobster and champagne dinner for two. We decided to use our credits towards a dolphin swim excursion. We weren’t allowed to bring cameras into the dolphin habitat (lame), so I don’t have photos of us in action. But essentially, Linds, Ryan, Mikey and I got smooched on the cheek and lips by a couple of bottle-nose nose dolphins that were rescued from the waters off the coast of Australia. And we got to ride on their bellies, among other tricks. Here we are in front of the dolphin habitat at Dolphinaris. (Or as Ryan liked to call it, Dolphinopolis.)
The wedding! Linds and Ryan exchanged vows under a white gazebo overlooking the Caribbean ocean. The bride was picture-perfect. The groom was as handsome as they come. And everyone was all smiles. Happy to be a part of what was surely one of the best days of their lives.
The day we say goodbye. One last group shot for the road.
There’s nothing like a Mexication. But then again, there’s nothing like being back with The Bear, sleeping in your own bed and cozying up in the house you call home. Thanks for the memories, Mexico! And the tans!
